Which vegan milk alternatives should I use?
Hiya! Following my decision to become a vegan, I’ve been wondering about what vegan milk alternative to use, so I dug deeper and did some research. Incase you have been thinking about it aswell, or even if you just want to find out some information on them, this is what I found:
Almond milk
Almond milk is one of the least calorific milk alternatives on the market and is varied with unsweetened and sweetened version. In my opinion, the sweetened variety has a very nutty taste and is generally quite nice, however maybe too sweet to drink a lot of (for example cereals or to just drink by itself). Many brands now include more protein, calcium etc.
Soya Milk
Soya milk seems to be one of the most popular and accessible dairy free milks on my list. It also has the most similar nutritional values to cows milk and contains a lot of protein compared to the others. It is a great source of calcium and contains iodine, vitamins B2, B12 and D).
Coconut Milk
Even though this milk is so delicious, it doesn’t naturally contain any protein and is higher in fat than other milk alternatives. Its actually different to coconut water and canned coconut milk as its made of coconut cream. This milk also has unsweetened and sweetened varieties and is great for smoothies!
Rice Milk
Rice milk contains almost no protein however is higher in carbohydrates than most vegan milks. It triggers the least allergic reaction and so means that almost everyone can drink it! This milk is generally a very healthy milk as it doesn’t contain any cholesterol or saturated fat and so drinking it would be a very good idea as long as you get your protein from other sources.
